Danish Centre for Particle Therapy invites to a workshop on selecting patients with low-grade gliomas for photon or proton therapy.

Danish Centre for Particle Therapy treated the first patient with proton therapy in January 2019. The first patients for treatment at the centre will be patients with brain cancer. These patients survive for long, thus it is extremely important to reduce the late effects of radiotherapy.

However, the knowledge on the dose-response relationship of the development of radiation induced brain damage is very limited, especially for patients with low-grade gliomas.

The workshop will present about 30 patients treated with photons or protons and clinical parameters as well as photon and proton strategies will be available. Oncologists from the four referring departments in Denmark will have the opportunity to choose treatment techniques.

Proton treatment planning will be possible combined with the selection of patients for physicists who want more experience with proton treatment planning for brain cancer.

The results will be used for developing a computer model to provide insight in which clinical parameters that are the most important according to which patients that must be referred to proton therapy.

Target audience
The invitation is primarily for two oncologists and one physicist from each of the four referring departments. Prioritisation of registrations can be necessary.
