Grant received in 2022

DCCC has funded 200,000 DKK to the project.

Peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC) in gastric and GEJ-cancers is associated with severely reduced quality of life which limits the palliative options for PC-associated disorders.

Studies from Asia have shown promising results using peritoneal catheters in which chemotherapy is repeatedly given in combination with systemic chemotherapy (RIPEC). The results show a significant reduction of tumour size and a prolonged progression free survival.

After a systematic literature review, a protocol will be developed to prepare for a phase II study, investigating the progression free survival for patients who have gastric or GEJ cancers with peritoneal carcinomatosis treated with RIPEC. In this context, applications to the committee on health research ethics, the Danish Medicines Agency and an application for endorsement of the project from the Danish Esophageal Gastric Cancer Group (DECG) will be prepared.

The initiative aims extend palliative care to a group of patients with a severely impaired quality of life, where treatment options are limited.

Multidisciplinary organisation

Once drafted, the protocol will be submitted to the DECG with a request for endorsement.
