Grant received in 2021

DCCC has funded 200,000 DKKK to the preparation of this national and multidisciplinary investigator-initiated study.

The incidence of rare cancers such as neuroendocrine neoplasms (NEN) is increasing in Denmark and worldwide. In the management of NEN, the importance of external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) and chemoradiotherapy (CRT) with both curative and palliative intents remain unknown. There are no studies of dose-response relationships in NEN with different histopathological and/or tumorspecific genetic characteristics.

This national study will, for the first time, prospectively evaluate the impact of the EBRT/CRT total dose and fractionation size on local regional tumor control, symptom relief as well as disease, progression free and overall survival in NEN patients. The incorporation of the histopathological, biochemical and tumor specific genetic marker assessment in the evaluation of EBRT/CRT efficacy may help to identify the therapeutic NEN subgroups that are more suitable to such modalities.
