Grant received in 2022

DCCC has funded 130.000 DKK to the project.

Psychological problems, such as fear of relapse, anxiety and depression, are among the most widespread consequences and late consequences of cancer treatment. This means suffering for the patient, and it also affects the rest of the course, for example through increased use of health services, including oncology, lower adherence to e.g. hormone therapy, and ultimately reduced survival.

Clinicians and researchers in the field of cancer who are interested in investigating and reducing the psychological side effects and late effects of patients and cancer survivors currently only meet by chance, as happened at the Danish Cancer Research Days 2022. This has led to a desire for a joint professional forum, where is time and opportunity for sparring, exchange of ideas, cooperation and development.

DPOC is intended to be that forum. The intention is to increase national cooperation within psycho-oncology and create opportunities for national trials and guidelines in the field.

Based on the 3 national late sequelae centres, which already have a focus on psychological late sequelae, DPOC will seek to spread knowledge and experience from this for the benefit of local late sequelae centers and clinical departments across the country. DPOC will also draw inspiration from international experts via the International Psycho-Oncology Society (IPOS), just as Danish experts in the field will be invited to invite and facilitate discussions about directions and perspectives for future psycho-oncology in Denmark.
