Grant received in 2023.

DCCC has funded 129.800 DKK to the initiative.

In recent years, research has documented the influence of smoking, obesity, diet, alcohol and exercise on cancer patients’ trajectory showing that cancer patients’ health behaviour negatively impacts the efficacy of cancer treatment, side effects and the risk of recurrence.   However, the translation of this knowledge into clinical practice, for the benefit of cancer patients, remains to be established.  Clinicians in cancer departments often face challenges in addressing health behaviour when patients lack motivation. Therefore, it is essential to establish a shared approach to working with patient motivation.

Interdisciplinary guidelines involving physicians, nurses, physiotherapists, and dietitians are necessary to effectively address health behaviour and its impact on cancer patients.

The supported initiative aims to share knowledge in this field nationwide and will organise an interdisciplinary conference for researchers and clinicians from the primary and secondary sector, as well as patient associations. The conference will focus on the research-based evidence for health behaviour and its significance for cancer patients. The intention is to establish a framework for the development of national guidelines for implementing health behaviour in practice and improve patient care across sectors.
