Received grant in 2018

DCCC has funded 197,450 DKKK to the project.

A Danish experiment published in the acknowledged journal 'Lancet Oncology' in 2015 demonstrated promising results with treatment of rectal cancer by radiation and chemotherapy. Since then another Danish national study has demonstrated that the treatment also can be practiced in other departments with good results. The experiment we wish to initiate will determine the optimal dose of radiation. Our claim is that a higher radiation dose given by modern technique will be well tolerated and cure more patients. This question can only be answered by undertaking a lottery experiment.

Status as of August 2022: The protocol has been initiated and patients have been included in two out of five planned centres. A boarding meeting has been held on 13 and 14 June 2022 with a view to following up on the inclusion and getting the last centers activated.

A national network has been established with the highest international competences in radiation treatment of rectal cancer. The network takes care of both the quality assurance close to the patient and research-based improvements of the treatment.
