Call out for national collaborative projects on re-irradiation, adaptive radiotherapy, intra-fractional dose reconstruction, safety margin assessment, delivered-dose-NTCP-modelling etc. If you in any way consider a project or work within these subjects, you are invited to a brainstorming and network forming event.

Purpose: To form a new national interdisciplinary dose accumulation group.

Background: Today each radiotherapy center in Denmark is using software for dose warping and dose accumulation. The purposes are many; from dose warping for re-irradiation and adaptive radiotherapy or for intra-fractional dose reconstruction based on motion data. Furthermore, dose accumulation is an emerging tool for safety margin assessment and for dose-response studies, where correlations between outcome and actually delivered dose are being investigated. The deformable image registration algorithms used for dose accumulations, as well as the ways to quality assure them, are many.

In November 2021, a workshop on dose accumulation with participants including medical doctors, physicists, and researchers from 11 hospitals/institutions was held in Odense. At this workshop, it became evident that even though the tools are widespread and frequently used throughout the country, knowledge sharing between the hospitals and between researchers and the clinics is needed in order to secure proper use and validation of the tools.

At this workshop, we seek to initiate collaborations on a national level between institutions as well as between the Danish Multidisciplinary Cancer Groups in order to augment the knowledge level and usability of dose accumulation.
