Registration is now open for the Danish Cancer Research Days 2025, and expectations are high for the programme that focuses on the frameworks and opportunities presented by Cancer Plan V.
“Planning this year’s programme has been driven by strong energy and enthusiasm, and there’s a lot to look forward to,” says professor Henrik Frederiksen, consultant haematologistand Chair of DCCC’s Scientific Committee.
This year’s theme, “A differentiated healthcare system – can we realise Cancer Plan V?”, highlights the ongoing transformation of the cancer field in the context of the national healthcare reform and the forthcoming Cancer Plan V.
The healthcare system can and must take on significant responsibilities, but we cannot continue to do things as we always have.
“This year’s programme will address several complex and challenging topics. We believe that the largest multidisciplinary cancer conference in Denmark is the ideal forum for addressing the difficult issues at the core of today’s healthcare challenges. In other words, we aim to focus on the foundation we are building upon and the tasks that lie ahead – and then ask the question: Can we realise them?” Henrik Frederiksen explains.
Ideas and results: From lab – to patient – and back again?
It is essential that the scientific advances and breakthroughs – including those from laboratory-based research – are translated into tangible benefits for patients. For this reason, the programme will dedicate time and focus to translational research. We will take a closer look at the interaction between age and biology, along with the role of epigenetics in cancer treatment.
“The Danish Cancer Research Days were established with the fundamental aim of shortening the path from research to clinical practice – ensuring research benefits reach the patients. We believe interdisciplinary collaboration and the sharing of knowledge are key to improving research, and in turn, enhancing outcomes for patients – whether in prevention, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, or management of late effects,” says Henrik Frederiksen.
Joint efforts for better treatments and cross-sectoral solutions – for the benefit of patients
The cancer field, and the healthcare system more broadly, are continuously evolving. New technologies and treatments continuously shape the options and services available to patients. A crucial task for the healthcare system is to ensure high-quality and coherent patient pathways. This demands strong professional and cross-sectoral collaboration, which the Danish Cancer Research Days actively seek to promote.
“At DCCC and DMCG.dk, we are proud to present this year’s programme and look forward to delivering a tour de force of timely and important topics within cancer research. It is a great privilege to collaborate closely with my esteemed colleague and Chair of DMCG.dk, Camilla Qvortrup, in delivering sessions on early and targeted diagnostics, as well as innovative treatments based on modern technologies,” says Henrik Frederiksen.
He also extends his sincere thanks to the many scientific reviewers and session managers for their tremendous efforts and contributions to the planning of the Danish Cancer Research Days.
“Above all, I’m proud that here in Denmark we have this unique opportunity to bring together professionals, decision-makers, and patient representatives from across the country at the Danish Cancer Research Conference,” he concludes.
