DCCC has funded 197,874 DKK to the project

Patients with bladder cancer are often older with multiple comorbidities, and thus have an increased risk of complications in relation to cancer surgery. Previous studies on other oncological treatments have shown a positive effect of geriatric interventions and multidisciplinary collaboration. However, the effect of interventions in patients with bladder cancer undergoing surgery has not previously been systematically studied.

We apply for funding to prepare a national study aiming to

1) validate a recently developed Danish frailty screening tool (DEN-GER) in patients with bladder cancer. We aim to investigate whether DEN-GER is able to identify patients with potentially modifiable health issues, expected to benefit from geriatric interventions in relation to planned cancer surgery.

2) investigate the effect of perioperative Comprehensive Geriatric Assesment (CGA) and intervention in older, frail patients with bladder cancer facing extensive cancer surgery (radical cystectomy).

Multidisciplinary organisation
The study is based in the Danish Research Center for Cancer Surgery: ACROBATIC, with a commitment from the Danish Bladder Cancer Group (DBCC)
