Grant received in 2023

DCCC has funded 200.000 DKK to the project.

With RESPONSE, a new follow-up program will be developed and tested for patients operated on for colon and rectal cancer, stage I and II. The current program focuses one-sidedly on relapse, which only 5-12% get. In contrast, 30-50% experience moderate-severe psychological/physical late effects.

By using circulating cancer cell DNA (ct-DNA) as a marker for recurrence instead of CT scans, it will be possible to free up resources for monitoring and treating late sequelae. The entire follow-up program and monitoring must be controlled by the patient himself from a smartphone app, in order to increase patient autonomy.

It is expected that the holistic, patient-directed follow-up program will improve the quality of life compared to the current program, without reducing survival or increasing costs.

Multidisciplinary organisation
The Steering Commitess is anchored in DCCC. The study group includes representatives from 4 of DCCC's national centres: DCCC Danish Research Centre for circulating tumor DNA guided treatment, Danish Center for Cancer Surgery (ACROBATIC), Centre for Research on Survivorship and Late Adverse Effects after Cancer in the Pelvic Organs, National Center for Breast Cancer Survivorship
