Received grant in 2018

DCCC has funded 100,000 DKK to the project.

Many women that undergo mastectomy due to breast cancer wish to have a breast reconstruction. If the patient is treated with radiotherapy the reconstruction is often made after a year for the fear of damage caused by radiation, making it more difficult to achieve aesthetic results since it is not possible to preserve the leftover skin. The purpose of this project is to examine a new method called delayed-immediate reconstruction which places a temporary prosthesis below the pectoral muscle. By doing so it becomes possible to preserve the skin until the reconstruction and thus allow for improved aesthetic results.

Status as of August 2022: Modules for randomization and data entry have been created for the study in REDCap and in DBCG. Inclusion started on 1 January 2020, and inclusion continues.
