The FRAGINOC study: The impact of FRAilty screening, Geriatric assessment and INtervention in older patients with epithelial Ovarian Cancer
Grant received in 2021
DCCC has funded 152.000 DKK to the project
Women ≥70 years with advanced ovarian cancer are offered less extensive or no surgery due to age, even if it is well-known, that removal of all tumor is the key factor for prognosis and survival. Our aim is to find a combination of screening tools (incl. functional test and biomarkers) to identifying frail patients and to examine the impact of rehabilitation before and during their oncological treatment.
It is a nationwide randomized project, involving specialist teams in oncology, gynecology and geriatrics. Patients eligible for primary chemotherapy will be randomized 1:1 for standard care vs. a comprehensive geriatric assessment and tailored intervention (prehabilitation).
We will develop a frailty screening test, which can select ovarian cancer patients, who needs pre-habilitation prior to treatment and evaluate if intervention results in increased surgical rates. This may decrease the stress of surgery/chemotherapy and complications and improve survival and quality of life.
